Reading ebooks on the PSP

For those who enjoyed excerpts, I posted an excerpt of The Last Guardian last time to this blog, and I intend to post another, however, I have decided to pass along a discovery of mine this time. There is a lot of talk among writers and in the press lately about ebook readers, a device for reading ebooks. Amazon has just come out with the Kindle ebook reader for about $400 and Sony has come out with one for about $300. Fictionwise still has their ebook reader for about $200 or less, and they are all all good but expensive just to read a book. The cheapest way for many to read ebooks is on a PDA. Palm makes several PDA's that are inexpensive and all read ebooks. I have a Palm and have read ebooks on it. I like it but the screen is really too small. An even cheaper method for many of us is the PSP. Many of us already have PSPs in the house, our kids play games and watch movies on them. If you don't have one already, you can get one new at Wal-Mart for about $160. The, PSP or Play Station Portable, has a large backlit screen that you can read in either landscape or portrait mode, you can change the brightness and type size and colors. You can even display photos, book covers, etc. It is rechargeable and will run for about 7 hours on a charge. You can flip the book page backward or forward with a button and the pages are crisp and easily read. I have an ebookman, and palm, but I prefer the PSP for reading because the screen is so big and bright. You have to pick up a program (free) on the internet for creating ebooks or download the directions because the machine does not come prepared to read ebooks. That is the only drawback, but using the free program PSP Ebook Creater, I was able to convert, load and start reading The Last Guardian on the PSP in about 5 or 6 minutes. It's easy. Steve
